Alumna's book explores Romania's online 'diaspora'

CEU alumna Ruxandra Trandafoiu (NATI ’99, PhD) recently published her book Diaspora Online: Identity Politics and Romanian Migrants. Last month a copy was presented to the CEU Library.

The book deals with online cultural and political expressions of the Romanian diaspora via websites based in Europe and North America.

Major alumni donors meet with Soros, scholarship recipients

CEU history was made again last Wednesday as the university’s Founder and Honorary Chairman George Soros met with several major donors to the Alumni Campaign.

Mr. Soros was visiting the campus for the launch of the Hungarian edition of his book The Soros Lectures: George Soros at Central European University.

Afterwards he spoke privately with the alumni donors and thanked them for supporting the campaign, now in its final weeks. It was the first time he had met with them as a group.

Trustee Blum promotes 'partnership' as Alumni Campaign nears deadline

The CEU Alumni Campaign has less than five weeks to finish raising $500,000. Thanks to the response of alumni around the world we're closer than ever to reaching our goal - but we're not there yet.

The campaign received a great boost earlier this year from CEU Board of Trustees member Richard Blum, who pledged a dollar-for-dollar match for alumni contributions up to $50,000.

'Philanthropy Day' a big hit

All we can say is “wow”!

On Friday, Nov. 15 the CEU community in Budapest came together for the university’s first-ever Philanthropy Day. Intended to bolster awareness of the value of philanthropic giving, this historic student-led initiative involved raising funds for the CEU Alumni Campaign and a local nonprofit, Hope for Children.
